At James Creek Cider House, we’re proud to highlight the people behind the products—and this week, we’re excited to introduce Donald Dees of Dees Bees Apiary LLC.

With roots that run deep in Moore County, Donald’s story is one of tradition, passion, and craftsmanship. Beekeeping isn’t just something he picked up—it’s part of his family’s legacy. His grandfather, great-grandfather, and generations before were all beekeepers, and while his father took a different path, Donald found his way back to the hive.

After a 41-year career in laboratory science, Donald made the decision to retire and fully dedicate himself to his bees—giving them the time, care, and attention they deserve. What began as a childhood connection and a renewed interest in 2015 officially became Dees Bees Apiary LLC in 2016.

🍯 What Makes Dees Bees Special

Donald is a true hands-on producer, managing every step of the process himself—from building new colonies to harvesting, bottling, and selling. His products are:

• Locally produced in Moore County
• Chemical-free with no additives
• Minimally processed to preserve the integrity of raw honey

The result? A product that speaks for itself. As Donald puts it, “The integrity, quality, and commitment is evident at the very first taste.”

🌿 From Hive to Table

While honey is his most popular product—shipped across the country and even internationally—Donald also offers beeswax, propolis, and even rare Purple Honey when available.

His honey isn’t just something you buy—it’s something people come back for again and again. One of his favorite moments? Watching a child who “doesn’t like honey” try it… and immediately change their mind.

Beekeeping is no easy task. Between maintaining colony health and competing with imported, lower-quality products, the challenges are real. But Donald’s commitment to quality and local production continues to set him apart.
