Featured Farmer Spotlight:
Feathered Pines Farm -Rooted in Sustainability, Handcrafted with Love
Nestled in the heart of Cameron, North Carolina, Feathered Pines Farm is a budding gem in the local farming community. Run by Maureen and Patrick Fisher, this first-generation, family-operated farm has blossomed in just a year and a half into a vibrant homestead brimming with handcrafted goods, fresh produce, and a passion for sustainable living.
Feathered Pines Farm was born out of a shared dream—a dream grounded in self-sufficiency, sustainability, and a deep love for working with the land. For the Fishers, farming is more than just a livelihood; it’s a lifestyle. “We started Feathered Pines Farm with a vision of blending traditional homesteading practices with sustainable farming methods,” says Maureen. “It was important to us to teach our children how to farm and share those offerings with our local community.”
What began as a small, self-reliant endeavor has grown into a multifaceted operation. Today, the farm boasts poultry—including chickens, turkeys, and peafowl—goats, honeybees, two thriving orchards, seasonal gardens, and a range of handmade products that reflect the family’s dedication to their craft.
Feathered Pines Farm is a popular stop at local farmers markets, where Maureen and Patrick offer a thoughtfully curated selection of soy candles, wax melts, fresh produce, soaps and scrubs, live plants, and more. Every product is crafted with care, reflecting the farm’s commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship, and community. Their soy candles, in particular, have become a customer favorite and stand as their best-selling product.
“We’re always rotating seasonal stock,” says Maureen. “Whether it’s produce from the garden or one-of-a-kind handmade gifts, we love offering something special for every time of year.”
What truly sets Feathered Pines apart is their authentic, hands-on approach to farming. They proudly follow sustainable practices and place a strong emphasis on using locally sourced materials. This dedication shines through in everything they sell.
Since launching their business, Maureen and Patrick have embraced the farmers market scene, not only as a way to share their goods but as a vital connection to their community. “The best part is the sense of community—getting to know our customers, sharing our passion, and connecting with other local farmers and artisans,” they say.
Selling at the market has allowed Feathered Pines Farm to build strong relationships with their customers, receive valuable feedback, and grow their brand organically.
Like many farmers, the Fishers face the usual ups and downs—weather, rising supply costs, and the daily balancing act of running multiple ventures. Yet, they remain grounded in what makes it all worth it: the joy their work brings to others.
“There’s nothing like seeing someone light up over a candle, or knowing a family is enjoying a meal made from our eggs and vegetables,” Maureen shares. And when it comes to favorite memories, one moment stands out: “Watching our baby goats being born. It never gets old!”
Whether you’re lighting one of their beloved soy candles or picking up a fresh bunch of greens, one thing is clear—Feathered Pines Farm is growing something truly special.
